The query today first-up for Vistabelle was that the 1100 metre trip might be too sharp, but with Michael Poy sitting as quietly as a church mouse as she ranged up at the 200 metre mark, the race was all but over.
The lightly-raced four-year-old daughter of Tavistock returned to the racetrack today at Bendigo after enjoying a break since early July. Her last run was in town at Flemington, finishing five lengths off Cordilla in the Rivette Final, but today she found no such competition, demolishing her rivals in The Big Screen Company BM64 Handicap.
Having only her sixth start with now two wins on the board, the future looks bright for the $140,000 purchase at the Karaka Sales in New Zealand in 2018.
“There was a nice bit of speed in the race today and we were able to take a nice sit on the first few, come out wide and Michael was travelling really well a long way out and he knew it, as such he was happy to cover ground around the corner and she just cruised up on the bridle and went on with it,” said Henry.
“It was a really good first-up run from her, it was something that we have wanted to see from her for awhile… it shows she will be even better over her pet distance of 1300 metres later this campaign.”
“She has had a really good blow post-race, which means she has good improvement to come out of today which is good.”
Michael Poy enjoyed the ride as much as the trainer and connections, describing her win as “very impressive”.
“You saw how she won, she just idled up next to them and had plenty left going to the line and did it quite comfortably in the end,” said Poy.
“She is definetly ready now to step up in grade and she will be very hard to beat wherever she goes.”
1300 metre races on the Sandown-Hillside track look ideal for Vistabelle moving forward, with the off-season city meetings perfect for her to cash in and take home some good prizemoney for her connections.
“I think we will have a bit of fun with her this preparation,” said Henry.
