Speedy galloper The Siscos Kid ($5) brought up a second win in as many starts in the western districts of Victoria, leading from barrier to box at Coleraine on Friday. The gelded son of Danerich backed up his Casterton victory three weeks earlier, jumping fast from the 1300-metre starting point and establishing a clear lead early on in the race. Rank outsider Let’s Atom ($101) made a nuisance of himself at the 800-metre mark, moving up to eyeball The Siscos Kid and apply some pressure to the frontrunner. He was quickly beaten off however, jockey Jack Hill turning for home a length in front and booting clear once again. China Affair ($9.50) and Where’s Poppy ($5) enjoyed soft runs behind the speed and set out to chase, but neither could make any inroads as The Siscos Kid held a margin of a length-and-a-quarter on the line. “He had a beautiful run in front, he was able to control the race”, Hill said upon returning. “He dashed around the corner, gave a good kick and held his gallop to the line”.
Henry sung the praises of his galloper post-race. “That was terrific.
“I was a bit worried when that 200/1 chance whipped around and started racing us, but Jack did well to maintain his momentum”, he said. “He rails really well, gives a kick around the corner and he was too strong.
“He didn’t even pull up blowing, he’s just doing what he has to”.
The Siscos Kid will continue his preparation, with a heat of The Valley Sprinters Cup Series at Ballarat on October 15th one of his upcoming options.
Friday’s victory took the seven-year-old’s win tally to six from twenty-eight starts, pushing his earnings beyond $160,000.
