Speedy filly Over The Stars ($6.50) led her rivals a merry dance at Caulfield on Wednesday, never headed when breaking her Maiden on the Heath circuit. The daughter of Overshare had placed three times from five previous attempts, but never looked in danger from the 1000-metre start, setting a new track record (57.39 seconds) under apprentice Celine Gaudray. The three-year-old jumped fast and was allowed to stride freely from the outset, clocking sub-eleven-second splits midrace and placing her chasers under pressure from the top of the straight. It was a convincing win in the end, holding the field at bay in an easy watch for connections.
“She relaxed beautifully for me”, said the young hoop post-race, who outrode her metropolitan claim with this win.
“I just kept her well-balanced around the corner before I really went for her, and she attacked the line really well.
“There’s definitely a few more wins there for her”.
Henry praised his filly in the aftermath, hinting at better things to come this preparation.
“She’s done a terrific job.
“Very pleased with her. Hopefully she can go on to city grade now”.
Over The Stars will likely return to the races in the next two-to-three weeks, with suitable options to head back to the Heath, or Moonee Valley upcoming.
