Sister to Prince Of Penzance headed to Australia

Young trainer Henry Dwyer added a new member to his team when signing for the sister to promising middle-distance performer Prince Of Penzance at the National Yearling Sale in New Zealand on Thursday.

Dwyer paid $110,000 for the Rich Hill Stud-consigned Pentire filly out of Royal Successor, the highest priced filly so far on the second day of the Select Sale.

“I know everyone says it but I just think she is a lovely filly,” Dwyer said.

“She’s a sister to Prince Of Penzance who is one of the most promising horses in Melbourne and if he can go and get some black-type in the Autumn then she is worth a lot more.” Dwyer said.

The granddaughter of Group I Yorkshire Oaks winner Only Royale has been purchased for some existing clients but there is some percentage still left.

“She’s for some existing clients and then there is some left over, it would be nice to get some new people involved too, especially with the new venture.” Dwyer said.

Dwyer confirmed that he is establishing a base at Caulfield in February.

“I will be taking over the 18 boxes where Anthony Cummings was training.” Dwyer said.

Dwyer spent five years with Robert Smerdon at Caulfield before spending some time at Macedon Lodge and said he is looking forward to returning.

“It is something like a homecoming for me, a challenge but one that I am looking forward to very much.”
