Talented three-year-old sprinter, Prairie Flower ($5.50), has returned to the races in fine style with a last-to-first victory on the Ballarat synthetic for trainer Henry Dwyer. Jockey Will Price settled at the tail of the seven horse field, his mount beaten for speed in the early stages. The daughter of Star Turn worked into the race and let down with a strong run from the 500-metre mark, taking the lead inside the final furlong and recording a classy win. Price was all smiles as he returned to the winner’s stall, confident in the filly’s ability. “She always felt like the winner coming around the corner”.
It was an excellent return to the track against the older horses, suggesting she could be in for a successful spring preparation.
From the trainer:
She’s still got good improvement to come. For her to come out and win like that first-up is a good endorsement for her going forward.
We’ve got to go to stakes class now – when you’ve got a filly that’s rated f70 this time of year there’s no other option.
With that win and how she won, she can be competitive in those sort of races. That’s exciting.
Prairie Flower’s next start will be at Flemington on September 10th in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes over 1100-metres.
