Henry Dwyer has aborted plans to start his promising filly Leotie in next Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).
The Caulfield horseman will instead plot a path to the Thousand Guineas via the key local lead-up.
Dwyer was open to the idea of heading to Rosehill, but after seeing how I Am a Star – who defeated Leotie in the Quezette Stakes – went yesterday against what he termed the ‘B graders’ knocked his confidence a little.
I Am A Star battled into fifth position, beaten 4.3 lengths by Foxplay, in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
“It’s not because we think we’re going to go up there and get flogged, it’s mainly because my filly doesn’t need to run,” Dwyer said when a guest on Spring Insiders.
“She’s not going to run here either – if she didn’t go to Sydney we were thinking about running here at Flemington – but I think she’s a run forward.
“You’ve got these fillies and you want to work out where they fit in, but we’re a run ahead of ourselves. We don’t need to, we’ll go to the Thousand Guineas Prelude and the Thousand Guineas.”
The $200,000 Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) will be run at Caulfield on September 24 with the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas at the same track on October 8.
Leotie is an $11 chance in CrownBet’s Thousand Guineas market, which is headed by Omei Sword at $4.40.
