It was a gutsy and determined win early Tuesday when MARQUETTE the three-year-old daughter of SNITZEL combined with Will Price to take out the Jarrod Arentz Electrical and Solar Solutions Maiden Plate over 1300m at Swan Hill.
Coming into this debut performance off the back of an impressive trial over a 1000m at Geelong on January 25th and some strong trackwork gallops, the stable was extremely confident that the promising young filly was going to run a very good race.
Jumping from barrier four, Price allowed MARQUETTE to settle outside the leader which was the plan with the speed influence and short price favourite going forward from the inside alley. After landing in this prime position they rolled along throughout the middle stages of the race before MARQUETTE and the leader skipped away entering into the straight, She was tough all the way through to the line not allowing the other horse to get the better of her and evidently she was too strong putting them away in the closing stages to win by one and a half lengths.
Post-race Will Price was full of praise for the filly, “she did everything I asked of her today, I had to hold her back so she didn’t hit the front too early but when I needed a big effort late she responded and was able to run away with it” said Price.
The team were very happy to see her win this Maiden and get on the board in an impressive fashion. ” She was off and gone leaving a big gap back to third which is always a good sign,” said Henry. She looks like now a step up into city midweek races could be on the cards next preparation, but the stable won’t tie her down with the plan to send MARQUETTE to the paddock to freshen up ahead of what looks to be a promising future.
