Honorable Spirit goes out a winner

Lot 8 in the current Inglis Online Sales Catalogue at the time of writing says $5,500 for Honorable Spirit, but after his win in the Hygain Winners Choice BM58 Handicap at Ballarat today connections should see that rise further to add to their handy $12,000 first prize winner’s cheque.

The son of Charm Spirit chalked up his second career win after 10 starts and has shown promise throughout his career without setting the world on fire, but the horse is sound and well and will be a nice addition to wherever his new home is found.

It was another perfect ride from Beau Mertens, who has ridden a double for Henry Dwyer Racing at his last two rides, with Galaxy Ghost saluting at Wangaratta on Saturday.

“I was happy with that win,” said Mertens.

“The plan was to lead but the speed was good enough where we could just to take a sit and have us nice and relaxed, we had a beautiful run from there on in and he really hit the line well eased down.”

“He improved significantly today with the blinkers on,” said Henry.

“The race panned out really well for him, we were able to hold a good position early and the speed in the race in the first 800 metres really helped him.”

“He was pretty strong to the line today, he has improved a lot with the blinkers going on and he is out of a Zabeel mare, and they are famous for improving when the blinkers go on,” said Henry.

“Our bloke won well today and he has a bit of upside [for his new owners] and is capable of another win or two in the coming months”.

“He’s a lovely sound horse and looks terrific and whoever buys him can continue on straight away with him and hopefully win some more races.”
