Race 1 – Composite Action
Jockey – Jye McNeil
1000m – Barrier 2
Three-year-old filly Composite Action returns to the races today, four months after an inconspicuous debut at this track in June. The daughter of Foxwedge was immediately spelled following the performance, a recent Seymour trial suggesting she’s returned in good order for today’s event. Jockey Jye McNeil leaves from an inside gate and can let his filly settle where comfortable, looking to warm-up late with an eye to more ground next time out.
Plenty of first-starters lining up here, creating a foggy speed map in what shapes as a hot opener to the card. Expect Shadhavar to jump fast and put herself in the picture early on from a good draw, resuming here on the back of a pair of jumpout wins. She was right in the market on debut in May on a shifty Warrnambool track and, like many, didn’t handle the conditions. Latest jumpout win was by a big space, second there was beaten a nose on the weekend. One of the main chances. Mrs Archibald draws the inside alley and will be up there with Shadhavar early on. She was beaten a length when fresh but left a big gap to third, and blinkers go on second-up here. Chance. Always Enuff has each way claims, due a change of luck after a pair of forgivable runs last time in. Of the debutants, Electric Elvis and Jasmin Rouge have shown ability in their respective trials/jumpouts, but not discounting others. Plenty to learn in this one.
Composite Action will be better suited out over further later in her preparation, likely to find a few of these too sharp at the trip. She’ll benefit from the float trip and race experience, and gets first use of what you’d expect to be a lovely surface. Watching today.
Currently, Composite Action is a $126 chance in the market.
