Henry Dwyer Racing – Tuesday Preview at Moe

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has two runners today at Moe in BAIT ZAIN and NORTHERN WOODS.

Moe is rated a Heavy 8 and has been heavy right throughout winter and will no doubt provide really testing conditions today. The rail is back to the true having been out 6m and that fresh ground should hold up though the early part of the program. Moe is a tight-turning track where building momentum is key and jockeys need to be on their bike before the home bend.

Race 1 (1.35pm) Mbss Security – Doing Patrols F&m Maiden

No.5 BAIT ZAIN – Damien Thornton (Barrier 3)

BAIT ZAIN heads to Moe today where she will contest a Fillies and Mares Maiden. She has drawn gate three and Damien Thornton will ride.

BAIT ZAIN was only fair at Seymour over 1300m last start, but the drop back to 1200m here will suit and she doesn’t mind the wet. She has a tongue tie going on for the first time more to help her head carriage and might help her settle as she can get bit keen early in the race. She gets a lovely run from a soft draw and will box seat just off the leaders. This is a pretty handy maiden, but with natural improvement and that lovely run in transit, she can certainly be competitive.

WILLYGOOD and PITJARA clearly the horses to beat but she is fit and well and will get a good run in transit and whatever we see today will be her best.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $17 (as at 8am)

Race 4 (2.39pm)Viatek Maiden Plate

No.4 NORTHERN WOODS – Michael Poy (Barrier 11)

NORTHERN WOODS also heads to Moe where he will contest a 2050m Maiden. He has drawn gate eleven and Michael Poy will ride.

NORTHERN WOODS hit the line well over 1628m at this track on a heavy deck last start and now looks ideally suited out to the 2050m with plenty of fitness under his belt. He will likely concede them a bit of a start from the wide draw but his best form has been on the rain-affected going and this certainly isn’t a strong maiden.

He has been bred to run this distance and while has drawn wide again but that might not be too bad on a Heavy track today. He will be ridden conservatively to give him every chance to run out the 2050m and he should be finishing strongly and be therabouts in the top four.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $13 (as at 8am)
