Seymour
Race 2 – Flying Celica
Jockey – Will Price
1300m – Barrier 6
Toronado filly Flying Celica is second-up at Seymour this afternoon. The three-year-old galloper was sound on debut at Ballarat three weeks ago, beaten three lengths at 1200-metres and giving every indication she’ll appreciate the extra ground today. Jockey Will Price leaves from gate six and can find cover midfield before presenting to run on in the home straight.
Speed is drawn towards the outside with Flashbang, Red Hot George and Pop Quiz to press forward in the early parts, while Late Night Artist will look to cross the entire field from the extreme outside and find the lead in the long run to the home bend. This galloper went close on debut in November before another solid effort second-up. Put away after one more run and resumes here following a pair of jumpouts. One of the main chances. Flashbang has been a regular at the jumpouts and shown ability along the way. Strikes a suitable race to be thereabouts on debut. Each way chances to Pop Quiz, who is usually around the mark, and Red Hot George, who resumes from a spell. Others not hopeless.
Flying Celica presents fitter for her debut effort and can improve on that run today. She’ll be better again for the experience, and a similar effort has her in the each way mix today. Look for her to be closing late.
Currently, Flying Celica is an $8 chance in the market.
Seymour
Race 3 – Moaksun
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1000m – Barrier 4
Three-year-old galloper Moaksun is fourth-up and fitter when he heads to Seymour this afternoon. Th gelded son of Akeed Mofeed was sound when runner-up at Ballarat behind a smart one in May before an okay effort at Swan Hill last time out. He was caught wide throughout on that occasion, but Mitch Aitken should have no such concerns from gate four today, able to lob outside or just behind the speed in the early parts of the race.
Not a great deal of speed on paper. Perhaps Boulder Jack can roll across from towards the outside, while Trangoojahray and Jennizacinto can boot through from low draws and settle forward in the run. Three Musketeers was slowly away on debut at Wangaratta, recovering to be beaten under a length when runner-up two weeks ago. A cleaner getaway here sees him right in the mix. Ania is another who impressed on debut, chasing Landmark to within 1.2-lengths at Bendigo a fortnight ago. That galloper was runner-up at Caulfield in a good two-year-old race on Saturday. Solid form for this. Each way chances to The Prayer first-up from a spell, and Trangoojahray, who should get a nice run up near the front of proceedings.
Moaksun finds a race where he can settle on speed without spending too many tickets early, leaving plenty in reserve for late in the piece. He’s fit for recent racing and best efforts have him in this for as long way. Strong each way claims.
Currently, Moaksun is a $7 chance in the market.
Seymour
Race 4 – Jayveekay
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1600m – Barrier 10
Manhattan Rain filly Jayveekay is second-up and fitter when she stays at a mile at Seymour this afternoon. The three-year-old galloper was sound at Ballarat when fresh three weeks ago, not suited by a slow tempo on that occasion but solid through the line in heavy conditions. Jockey Mitch Aitken leaves from towards the outside and will find himself in the second half of the field turning for home, able to present and run on in the straight.
Speed looks genuine enough in the early parts, with Fast Freeze and Cleopatra Link to use their low draws to find prominent positions in the run, while Larabelle, Miss New York and Sea Of Lights can roll forward from the centre and settle handy to the speed. Sea Of Lights went close on a number of occasions in her first preparation before caught wide and well-beaten at the Gold Coast before a spell. She was solid at Ballarat first-up and a win looks close. Hardest to beat. Miss New York was good first-up before having excuses in the vet report at Bendigo a fortnight ago. No surprise to see her bounce back today. Each way chances to Lady Grunt and Los Alamoss, among others.
Jayveekay will likely find a few of these too sharp at this distance, looking for 2000-metres and beyond later in her preparation. She’ll get a soft run back in the field and get her chance to run on late. Can finish top six if the tempo is genuine.
Currently, Jayveekay is a $15 chance in the market.
