Ballarat
Race 6 – Not Enough Effort
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1000m – Barrier 5
Seven-year-old gelding Not Enough Effort has his fourth start for the Henry Dwyer camp today, looking to bounce back from a plain performance at Bendigo a fortnight ago. The son of Reward For Effort had been trending in the right direction prior to that run with good runs at Sandown and The Valley and the stable are expecting improvement at Ballarat today. Mitch Aitken will settle in the front half of the field from a middle draw, noting the rail is out nine metres and those on-speed are likely to be better suited throughout the meeting. Of his rivals, In Due Time for David Bourne carries the best form into this race and looks very hard to beat. His third placing behind Marble Arch puts him right in the mix here. Emilia Romagna is first-up for a new stable having looked sharp in a Flemington jumpout. She looks to have talent but has been away from the racetrack for a long time. Torobeel Muriel is two from two and faces her toughest test today, but hard to knock winning form. If the Dwyer galloper can reproduce his effort at Moonee Valley six weeks ago he comes right into contention here. Must be considered a top-four hope on that run.
Currently, Not Enough Effort is a $16 chance in the market.
