Hamilton
Race 3 – Pittsburgh Pirate
Jockey – Josh Cartwright
1400m – Barrier 9
Pierro gelding Pittsburgh Pirate is second-up at Hamilton today following a second-placed effort at Penshurst over a fortnight ago. The three-year-old was beaten seven lengths there by Dan Bowman’s promising galloper Is It Me, who went on to win in metropolitan grade at Morphettville next start. But it was an improved showing from the Henry Dwyer-trained three-year-old, who will present fitter at the 1400-metres this afternoon. Team McEvoy saddles up race favourite Rue De Palais, but chances must be given to Phil Stokes’ Chambers Bay and It’s The Bubbly for Melody Cunningham, who was beaten by Rock Dee Jay at Seymour last start. Jockey Josh Cartwright has a tricky assignment from the draw, but a long stretch to the bend from the 1400-metre starting point should allow him to find cover midfield on Pittsburgh Pirate and work into the race upon straightening.
Currently, Pittsburgh Pirate is a $15 chance in the market.
