Race 6 – Sawbay
Jockey – Harry Coffey
1700m – Barrier 5
Promising mare Sawbay is second-up and fitter when she rises to 1700-metres this afternoon. The daughter of Ghibellines did enough first-up at Ballarat a fortnight ago and will improve again off today’s run, looking to step further out in distance next time out. Jockey Harry Coffey rides from gate five and can let his mare drift back in the early parts, looking to run on and hit the line late in the piece.
Speed looks genuine enough with all of Feargal, Macy Moon, Mark Of The Man and Dark Harmony to roll forward and look for the top early, with Star Of Tavistock to enjoy a soft trail from the inside alley. Macy Moon comes here third-up following a pair of good runs this preparation. She got a long way back before running home strongly into third when fresh, before a solid effort on-speed behind a smart one last time out. Out to this trip suits, she’s sure to give them something to catch in the run home. Hardest to beat. Each way chances to Acteon, who was just okay first-up but generally improves with a run under his belt, and Bitcoin, who can pull out a run fresh.
Sawbay will appreciate the extra ground on offer today and be better again out beyond 2000-metres next start. She’ll give the leaders a start and be picking up late. Look for her to be running on.
Currently, Sawbay is a $15 chance in the market.
