Henry Dwyer Racing – Sunday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has four runners today in MACONNI, GAIUS, UNDER THE TASSELS and HEAVENLY BRIDGES running on Day 3 of the Swan Hill Carnival.

Swan Hill – Good (4)

This will be Day 3 of the Swan Hill Carnival so you’d expect by this stage they will be easing off the fence a little, but how much will be determined by the wear of the track. Swan Hill has a lovely, long straight that gives horses their chance to make ground if they are good enough.

Race 1 (11.40pm) Bet365 Top Tote Plus Maiden Plate

No.6 MACONNI – Michael Poy (Barrier 2)

MACONNI heads to Swan Hill today where she will contest a 975m Maiden. She has drawn gate two and Michael Poy will ride.

MACONNI was well beaten into third on debut but it was a high rating maiden and that form should measure up here. She didn’t have the best of luck over the concluding stages and should’ve finished a clearer third. She was quite keen in the early stages of her recent Geelong jump-out where she wanted to get on with it in the first 300m. That jump-out was strong, and it suggested she has come on from the debut. She is drawn a good alley and this is a race we have targeted for her for some time.

There is going to be plenty of speed in this race which will allow her to settle just behind the speed and with even luck pull out at the 300 metre mark and finish off strongly. A great each way chance at good odds.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $10 (as at 8am)

Race 2 (12.15pm) Support Swan Hill Community 3YO Maiden

No.4 GAIUS – Michael Poy (Barrier 10)

GAIUS also heads to Swan Hill where he will contest a 1200m Maiden. He has drawn gate eleven and Michael Poy will ride.

GAIUS was well-beaten on debut at Sandown but it was in a fairly handy race and he did show good ability in jump-outs prior. He has again jumped-out impressively ahead of this resumption. He is first-up today in what looks like a really nice race for him, the negative is the wide draw as he will likely have to drift a fair way back, with the current track pattern this Carnival favouring those on pace. Therefore, if he jumps well then Poy can look to potentially position more forward to give him a chance to win, with no instructions to Poy other than to play it by ear in the run.

He looks to have a lot of ability and is one of the better horses in this race and with some even luck he will certainly be thereabouts in the finish.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $9.50 (as at 8am)

Race 3 (12.50pm) The Bottleo Swan Hill 2&3YO Maiden

No.14 UNDER THE TASSELS – Michael Poy (Barrier 4)

UNDER THE TASSELS is the stable’s third runner at Swan Hill and will run in the 1600m Maiden. She has drawn gate four and Michael Poy will ride.

UNDER THE TASSELS is absolutely crying out for the mile. She was home the best last 400/200m splits of the entire meeting first up at Donald over the 1350m. She was then heavily backed before hitting the line strongly up to the 1400m at Mildura last time out. From the gate she will look to settle closer to the speed, ideally just outside the leader, with the favourite in ALMSGIVER having to come from behind us.

ALMSGIVER is clearly the horse to beat here, but she is in really good order and will give a great sight in this race.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $5.50 (as at 8am)

Race 5 (2pm) Jarrod Arentz Electrical BM78 Handicap

No.4 HEAVENLY BRIDGES – Zoe Lloyd a(4) (Barrier 4)

HEAVENLY BRIDGES is our fourth runner at Swan Hill today where she will contest a 975m BM78. She has drawn gate four and Zoe Lloyd will ride with her 4kg claim.

Speed comes from HEAVENLY BRIDGES and WAS WRITTEN with TONY NICCONI camping on their backs.
HEAVENLY BRIDGES gets down to 50kg here with Zoe Lloyd’s claim and in a race with only one other speed influence, this mare may be able to control with the light weight and given them something to catch. Her recent jump-out at St Arnaud was great which suggested she has bounced out of a recent failure in Adelaide well. She is a 955m winner at The Valley and she has run well at this track and trip in the past. She is seven-weeks between runs into this and the jump-out leading in suggests she can run very well fresh.

She should run a really good race today with a feather on her back.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $3.60 (as at 8am)
