Henry Dwyer Racing – Sunday Preview

Geelong

Race 8 – Count Of Anjou

Jockey – Mitch Aitken

1206m – Barrier 5

Four-year-old galloper Count Of Anjou is second-up and fitter when he heads to Geelong this afternoon. The gelded son of Rubick was sound upon resumption at Stawell three weeks ago, finding his rivals too sharp at the shorter trip and feeling the pinch late in the race. Out to 1200-metres is more suitable today, and jockey mitch Aitken can camp two or three pairs back with cover approaching the bend.

Speed has drawn wide with Hughie, Only The Best and Lulu Darling all to roll forward and have a look for the lead, while Struck Gold and Komachi can find nice trails behind the leaders. Even affair. Only The Best has been good at both runs this preparation, winning his maiden first-up before a runner-up effort at Cranbourne a fortnight ago. He’ll be in the first few turning for home and must be considered an each way chance. Lulu Darling was outclassed in better company at Flemington when fresh and is suited back in grade today. She’s won two from two at this track and no surprise to see her bounce back here. Struck Gold resumes following a consistent debut campaign when never out of the placings. He’s jumped out well enough to suggest a forward showing is on the cards. Each way chances to Trak Chiller and Hughie in a wide open race.

Count Of Anjou comes here better for the run at Stawell and still has improvement to come from today. He should get a nice run somewhere behind the speed and look to close the race off late. He’ll hit his sweet spot next time out, but can run into the top six here without surprising.

Currently, Count Of Anjou is a $46 chance in the market.
