Henry Dwyer Racing – Sunday preview

Casterton

Race 4 – Riding High

Jockey – Willie McCarthy

3800m Steeplechase

Experienced chaser Riding High sees the live hedges at Casterton today for the first time in his career. The gelded son of Raise The Flag has been racing well in his comeback preparation, jumping exceptionally throughout, and the same is expected this afternoon. Jockey Willie McCarthy hops back on, preferring the Dwyer runner to key rival Roland Garros, whom he partnered with last start.

Roland Garros beat Riding High home by two lengths at Hamilton last time they met on a very heavy surface, and meets Dwyer’s nine-year-old 3kg better at the weights. He’ll roll forward and run his own race in front, shaping as one of the runners to beat here. Armansky is an interesting prospect, still a maiden jumper but looks to have ability. He started a short-priced favourite at Warrnambool just a week ago, making a bad mistake when a mile out in front at the halfway point. He’ll join Roland Garros in the lead and make it a truly run chase. Elvison is a capable jumper and comfortably beat Armansky at this trip six weeks ago. Must be considered a chance here.

Riding High is the best horse in this race and has been weighted accordingly. He’ll be nearing the end of his preparation but is fit and sound and deserving of a victory. McCarthy opting to ride is a good push toward his chances and punters can be confident he will jump cleanly. Heavy surface is a slight query, but a windy day is expected so the track should be getting drier as the day progresses. He can go to the paddock on a high here.

Currently, Riding High is a $5 chance in the market.
