Henry Dwyer Racing – Sunday preview

Ballarat

Race 3 – Silence Please

Jockey – Beau Mertens

1200m – Barrier 3

So You Think gelding Silence Please stays at his home track today following a luckless run here last start. The three-year-old tracked up behind a wall of horses on that occasion and never saw clear air, going to the line untested and with plenty to give in a frustrating watch. Beau Mertens picks up the ride here and can find a position midfield or better from a good draw. The main speed influence looks to be Collison who has drawn the extreme outside in the eight-horse field. He shared the lead first-up and ran second to Flying On A Limb at Cranbourne. That horse won way up in grade in town yesterday and the form looks very strong for a race like this. A clear top pick and the market hasn’t missed him. Luna Angel won a recent jumpout at Penshurst that was run at a solid gallop. She can tuck in behind the lead from gate one and have something to offer late. Subculture improved sharply at Cranbourne first-up and will be better again this afternoon. In the each way mix. Silence Please should have finished much closer than he did last start and can make amends here. The favourite will prove hard to beat but if it’s made to work in the early parts, the Dwyer runner is fit for recent racing and could have last crack at him. A genuine each way chance.

Currently, Silence Please is an $8 chance in the market.

Race 6 – Electric Impulse

Jockey – John Allen

1200m – Barrier 11

Stable newcomer Electric Impulse kicks off her campaign over 1200-metres at a wet Ballarat. The daughter of Cable Bay has had an easy time of it since joining the Dwyer camp, all indications showing she’ll need the run today and be improved next time out. Speed looks good with Matao Ma likely to find the front from gate four while Little Schnitty will come across from out wider with Brazen Brando. Keen to see what Redneck Rum produces with blinkers today. He was a strong Terang maiden winner first-up before veering to the outside fence during the Warrnambool carnival. If the gear change straightens him up he’s in with a real chance today. Matao Ma rarely runs badly and if there’s any hint of on-speed bias, will prove very hard to run down. Sheza Marvel was a good debut winner here before running soundly up in grade next start. She’s first-up today, wet ground the query. Electric Impulse had little luck on debut before racing wide and winning at her next go. It’s over two-hundred day since the filly was last at the races and while she has the talent to win a race like this, the stable suggest she’s not quite forward enough to be a serious chance. Look for her to be warming up late.

Currently, Electric Impulse is a $9 chance in the market.

Mount Gambier

Race 4 – Not Enough Effort

Jockey – Sam Payne

900m – Barrier 7

Seven-year-old gelding Not Enough Effort heads to Mount Gambier first-up today looking to return to the winner’s stall for the first time in four years. The speedy galloper has had one preparation with the Dwyer stable, racing in stronger grade and boasting form around some handy types over summer. He was off a long break that campaign and the son of Reward For Effort should present further forward this time around. Jockey Sam Payne can be positive out of the gates, looking for a position outside or just behind the speed at this short trip. There’s speed drawn inside with Destiny’s Republic and Jukebox Lucy to press forward, while Arachnattack will be fast away from a wide draw. Jukebox Lucy ran well in her first start for Maddie Raymond, only gunned down late over 1000-metres at Bendigo. If she gets a favourable run up front she’ll be hard to beat. Comrade Bill is first-up and rarely runs a bad race. Tricky draw but with even luck he won’t be far away. There aren’t too many others to get enthused about in this and Not Enough Effort only needs to be somewhere near his best to pinch this. He’ll enjoy the soft conditions and although he’s lumping a big weight, has a class edge on his rivals here. A winning hope.

Currently, Not Enough Effort is a $4.20 chance in the market.
