Henry Dwyer Racing – Sunday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has three runners today in PRESS START, CHOUXTING THE MOB and THE DOMINATOR running at Swan Hill.

Swan Hill – Good (4)

Swan Hill is rated a Good 4 and they have had to apply 8mm of irrigation to the track this week. Fine, warm weather is forecast for Sunday so expect an upgrade to a Good 3 at some point during the day. Generally those horses on speed get a slight edge at Swan Hill when the track is on the firmer side.

Race 1 (12.55pm) Bet 365 Top Tote Plus Maiden Plate

No.15 PRESS START – Damian Thornton (Barrier 5)

PRESS START heads to Swan Hill today where she will tackle a 1600m Maiden. She has drawn gate six and Damien Thornton takes the ride.

PRESS START should be at peak fitness after three runs back and she gets onto a firm turf track for the first time. She has been in three fast run races this campaign and given that, coupled with the way she was fairly one-paced over the final two furlongs last start, she looks well placed out to the mile now. From gate five, she should get a super run in the race and she can get into a better rhythm at the longer trip.

If she can run out the mile today, she is an each way chance in this field with a good barrier and good jockey on board.

Race 5 (3.25pm) Pooles Accountants BM70 Handicap

No.1 CHOUXTING THE MOB – Harry Coffey (Barrier 1)

CHOUXTING THE MOB also heads to Swan Hill today where he will run in the 2400m BM70 Handicap. He has drawn gate one and Harry Coffey rides.

First run for our stable, CHOUXTING THE MOB is down in class here today after last start running at Flemington finishing seventh behind Schabau. He hasn’t won a race since June 2019, so we are very much finding our feet with him with today a good starting point. He has been running in listed and group company recently and has to carry weight today, but from barrier one should get a good run in transit and has a good jockey onboard in Harry Coffey. Not a betting proposition today, with more an eye to getting him back to the winner’s circle soon.

Race 6 (4pm) Buzbiz.net.au 0-58 Handicap

No.1 THE DOMINATOR – Michael Poy (Barrier 10)

THE DOMINATOR is our third runner at Swan Hill where he will contest a 2400m 0-58. He has drawn out in gate ten and Michael Poy takes the ride.

THE DOMINATOR is back to the flat after a really successful stretch over the jumps that saw him claim the Thackeray. His recent flat form has been against much stronger opposition than he meets today and, in fact, he has only contested one 0-58 in his career. This veteran ran reasonably well in a decent rating mile BM58 at this track back on April 16 and that sort of performance is good enough to measure up here. His most recent flat run – his only on 0-58 grade – was a fast-finishing fourth at Casterton when beaten less than a length after flashing home in the 4th best last 400/3rd best last 200m splits of the entire meeting, which is the sort of late speed generally reserved for shorter course races. That said, it was a slowly run affair and he was entitled to dash home, but the overall rating of the race was certainly superior to most of his rivals on Sunday.

He is set to run in a week’s time over the jump and this is a pipe-opener for him, but this is a winnable race for him, with a little caution being whether he saves himself for the jumps. This is a thin race though so he’s a definite chance.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $6 (as at 8am)
