Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has two runners today with THE SISCOS KID at Wangaratta and HEAVENLY BRIDGES at Morphettville.

Wangaratta – Good (4)

The track at Wangaratta has come up a Good 4 and with dry weather forecast it should continue to dry out a touch. Generally speaking, Wangaratta is a very fair track – they tend to fan wide around the home bend and use plenty of the straight but as a rule all horses get their chance.

Race 5 (2.51pm) Muddy Waters Cafe 0-58 Handicap

No.4 THE SISCOS KID – Harry Coffey (Barrier 2)

THE SISCOS KID heads to Wangaratta today where he will try and record back-to-back wins in a 1300m 0-58. He has drawn well in gate two and Harry Coffey will ride.

THE SISCOS KID got back and came home in good late splits first-up on a heavy track before improving his rating enormously to win back onto a firm deck at Stawell last time out. He bounced straight to the front and set a cracking tempo – +1.9 lengths above standard from the 1300-800m marks and +2.8L above standard to the 800-400m marks – which ran his rivals into the ground. He posted strong overall time (fastest of three 1300m races on the day) and relished the step in trip and firm going. That ability to roll at strong early fractions is a great asset that can be used to run his rivals ragged as he rises through the grades.

The lead is there for the taking today and if THE SISCOS KID holds his rating from last time out his rivals need to go to a new peak to beat him. Should be winning this from a good draw and if he gets left alone up front.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $2.15 (as at 8am)

Morphettville – Good (4)

Race 2 (1.01pm) TAB Handicap

No.5 HEAVENLY BRIDGES – Stacey Metcalfe a(3) (Barrier 7)

HEAVENLY BRIDGES (racing under Kirsten Mooney’s name) heads to Morphettville today to contest a 1000 metre Benchmark 78. She jumps from barrier 7 and Stacey Metcalfe will ride and claim three kilograms.

Kirsten is really happy with HEAVENLY BRIDGES after a good gallop during the week and she has eaten up well since. She does find herself in a tricky little race today, but the benefits are back to the 1000 metres and the Morphettville Parks track where it is advantageous to be on pace which is where she will be. Another advantage is the 51.5 kilograms, 7.5 kilos off Elderflower who we raced against a few starts ago and while beaten by 3-4 lengths, the weight pull will help us today.

She faces some tough competition today but she is race fit and probably over the odds and while she might find it tough to beat some of these, she will be thereabouts when the whips are cracking with such a light weight.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $34 (as at 8am)
