Horsham
Race 1 – Composite Action
Jockey – Neil Farley
2100m – Barrier 3
Improving filly Composite Action gets out to a suitable trip in the opener at Horsham this afternoon. The three-year-old daughter of Foxwedge was sound when stepping up to a mile at Colac a fortnight ago, forced to duck back to the inside in the home straight when beaten just over two lengths. Jockey Neil Farley stays on and leaves from barrier three today, able to take closer order in the run and be among the first turning for home.
Speed comes from wider out, with Octahedron to roll forward from the outside gate in a field of eight, while expect Cut No Ice and Prince Pinot to be thereabouts on settling. Girls Girls Girls draws for the soft trail behind the speed, likely to start a short-priced favourite after three straight runner-up performances to begin her preparation. She was backed as if unbeatable last start but found one better over 2000-metres at Colac when $1.24. Clearly hardest to beat, but could you trust at the price? Admittedly, it’s hard to enthuse others, perhaps an each way chance to Prince Pinot who comes here third-up and suited out in trip. Octahedron next best, but has lengths to make up on the favourite from their last encounter.
Composite Action gets winkers on today and faces a moderate field at her first go beyond 1600-metres. She’ll need to begin cleanly to give herself every chance in the run, three back on the rail has brought many undone around this tight circuit. No surprise to see her fighting out the finish today.
Currently, Composite Action is an $11 chance in the market.
