Seymour
Race 1 – Salsa Fellow
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1200m – Barrier 4
Promising three-year-old Salsa Fellow heads to Seymour today, looking to make it two wins in a row following his impressive win at Ballarat five weeks ago. The gelded son of Blue Point finished over the top of his rivals on that occasion, his ability outweighing his race smarts as he registered a strong maiden win. Jockey Mitch Aitken sticks on and can land where comfortable in the run, likely with a trail behind the leaders.
Just three runners to contend with in this, all showing ability on the track and with spring aspirations. Devil Man led throughout to post a late-season two-year-old win at the end of July, before fading late when taken on for the lead next time out. If they leave him alone up front, he’s in with a chance. Sugar Coat will likely stalk Devil Man every step of the way here and look to challenge at the top of the home straight. He was professional in the way he won on the Synthetic at Pakenham on debut and should only be improved here. The one to beat. Escarpa went back at enjoyed a saloon passage through the field at Bendigo to post an impressive debut win. 1200-metres looks suitable today. No surprises in this.
Salsa Fellow was very strong at the end of 1000-metres last start, picking up off a slow pace to sprint powerfully and win in good style. He should get the opportunity to do the same today, albeit against stronger opposition, but look for him to make his presence felt late in the piece.
Currently, Salsa Fellow is a $4.60 chance in the market.

Race 5 – Governor King
Jockey – Ben Allen
1600m – Barrier 6
Fiorente gelding Governor King is back at the races today, following a short let-up on the back of a puzzling Adelaide performance. The four-year-old galloper finished down the track when favourite over the border five weeks ago, but had been ultra impressive the start prior when dashing away to win in this grade by over seven-lengths at Sale. Jockey Ben Allen reacquaints with the gelding today, able to midfield or better from a middle draw.
Not a heap of early speed in this, but expect Infinity Imperial to roll across from towards the outside of the field and find the lead, while Ultimate Kiss can boot through from nearer the rail and hold a prominent position in the run. Even race with little separating six runners in the market. Heavenly Eagle finds it hard to win, but his runner-up effort to Freight Train two starts back reads well for this. That horse has since only found Electric Impulse better, who you’d expect would start short in this. Each way claims. Something Forjo was solid first-up at Pakenham and did win at her only second-up run. Drawn for a soft run from gate one, expect her to be thereabouts. So too Oceans Above, who is right back in grade for this. Can make a case for others.
Governor King is back in trip for today’s race, which looks ideal off a freshen-up. He draws to receive a lovely run, and Ben Allen is a key booking here. In an open race, he has strong each way claims.
Currently, Governor King is a $5.50 chance in the market.
