Henry Dwyer Racing – Sunday Preview

Geelong

Race 6 – Nishino Crescent

Jockey – Declan Bates

1733m – Barrier 5

Resuming galloper Nishino Crescent is first-up since May at Geelong this afternoon. The gelded son of Satono Aladdin has jumped out just once in preparation for today, a sound effort at Burrumbeet over 1000-metres a fortnight ago. Jockey Declan Bates rides from barrier five today and can let his six-year-old settle where comfortable, likely in the second half of the field before running on in the home straight late.

Scratchings have taken some of the sting out of this race, leaving Cleitus and Jackand as the most likely leaders from their inside draws, while Boyfromwye will go back and be one of the late closers. Jackand returns to his favourite track today, where he has won three from four, including two at this track and trip this preparation. He can sit handy to the speed from a soft draw and be strong late. Hardest to beat. Boyfromwye blew the start here last start, settling a mile back in a leader-dominated race before working home to grab fourth position. If he begins cleanly, he can give this a shake. Each way chances to Cleitus, who rarely puts in a bad one, and Starianne, whose best efforts put her right in the mix. Good race.

Nishino Crescent has been kept fresh for today’s run, and his solitary jumpout suggests he’s returned in good order. Straight to this distance looks ideal, having been excellent first-up over a mile at Seymour last preparation. Has the ability to knock these over, but improvement to come.

Currently, Nishino Crescent is a $9 chance in the market.
