Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday Preview

Mortlake

Race 7 – Budd Fox

Jockey – Christine Puls

2000m – Barrier 6

Talented jumper Budd Fox is second-up over 2000-metres in the Mortlake Cup this afternoon. Returning from a long layoff, the Foxwedge gelding was sound at Mount Gambier, taking benefit from the run and float trip three weeks ago. Jockey Christine Puls rides from barrier six today, and can let the eight-year-old find his feet from the start and seek cover in the second half of the field.

Speed is just okay, with Samedi to roll across from the outside and take up a forward position, while Fast ‘n’ Forward and Yellowbrick Road can punch through from the centre of the line early on. A few with a hope here. Riotous Mischief was a strong winner of the St Arnaud Cup last week, backing up a solid effort in the Manangatang Cup the start prior. If she holds her form, she’s in with a look today. Duhlata was very good winning at Horsham two starts back before struggling to make ground from the back in the Avoca Cup a fortnight ago. He’ll be better suited by this track and can make an impact late. Sous Les Nuages is first-up but has a class edge on most of these. He’s a chance if forward enough. Samedi was brave when given no hope in the cheap seats at Geelong last time out. Comes in well after a claim and has each way claims.

Budd Fox wants further than 2000-metres and will only improve from the run today. He’s on track for the jumps season ahead, and connections will be happy to bank a cheque and get him safely on the float post-race.

Currently, Budd Fox is a $23 chance in the market.
