Warracknabeal
Race 1 – Fatal Shot
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1000m – Barrier 7
Resuming gelding Fatal Shot has his first race start for almost twelve weeks on soft ground at Warracknabeal. The four-year-old son of Shooting To Win had two starts in his first preparation, finishing fourth on both occasions and showing good improvement at his second run. Jockey Mitch Aitken has drawn a little awkwardly in barrier ?? and will look to slot in with cover no worse than midfield in the run.
As expected over 1000-metres, there’s plenty of early speed here. Shecanmixit and By The Book have drawn the two inside barriers and will put themselves on speed from the outset. Atlantic Ridge and Rich Glow will look to roll across from out wider, while Litvyak can enjoy the run of the race camped behind the speed from an ideal draw. This runner started a short-priced favourite at both runs in her first preparation, performing well without getting the job done. She was given a soft time in a recent Bendigo jumpout and should get all the favours in the run here. Hardest to beat. It’s Maui’s Gold was very good at his first two career starts before not handling the firmer going last time out. Expect him to bounce back into calculations this afternoon. Whistlefield was sound on debut at The Valley on a tricky day to make ground, while debutant College Farm looks to have ability. Both have each way claims. Competitive race.
Fatal Shot will need to find cover in the early parts and won’t want to be too far out of his ground approaching the home turn. He was given an easy time when third in a recent jumpout and looks to have returned in terrific order. He’ll improve second-up but comes here as a strong each way chance today.
Currently, Fatal Shot is a $23 chance in the market.
