Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday preview

Casterton

Race 1 – Steller Eagle

Jockey – Jaylah Kennedy

1200m – Barrier 3

Russian Revolution mare Steller Eagle looks close to a win as she travels to Casterton this afternoon. Dwyer’s four-year-old galloper looked a touch unlucky not to breakthrough at Echuca last start when racing in restricted room approaching the finishing line. She crossed the line with Princess Halo on that occasion – that runner winning its next start at Ballarat yesterday. Jockey Jaylah Kennedy rides from gate three and can settle on or just behind the speed with a clean getaway here.

Speed looks ok with My Gal Val and Luscious to boot forward from good draws, while British Angel will roll across from the widest alley. This galloper was solid on debut, racing in the lead at Murtoa and holding onto second spot behind a handy type. She can do the same again here and with a run under her belt could be in this for a long way. How much work she does to cross will play a major role in her chances, but she’s the one to beat. Luscious was wide the trip when first-up in a race that probably should be stricken from the records owing to a false starter. She has room to improve here. Prophet An Loss won a recent Stawell jumpout and should be considered an each way chance.

Steller Eagle strikes a very winnable race today and has plenty in her favour. She can get a lovely run in transit and will be fit for three runs this campaign. Gets in well after Kennedy’s 2kg claim and will prove very hard to beat today.

Currently, Steller Eagle is a $2.50 chance in the market.
