Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday preview

Warracknabeal

Race 1 – Count Of Anjou

Jockey – Jack Hill

1200m – Barrier 3

Rubick gelding Count Of Anjou heads back to the races following a solid debut over 1000-metres at Werribee three weeks ago. Henry Dwyer’s three-year-old settled a long way back on that occasion, warming up late and running soundly into fourth place. The extra furlong today will suit and jockey Jack Hill will look to lob closer to the speed from a good draw. Speed comes from Book Of Exodus and Celtic Lightning towards the inside, while Miss Bariloche may roll forward from her outside gate. Bushtocity has the advantage of barrier one here and looms as one of the main chances following a good performance on debut last start. That was in a strong maiden during the Warrnambool carnival, backing up good jumpout form and he will be improved today. Miss Bariloche won a recent jumpout comfortably and looks ready to perform for her new stable first-up. She showed enough in her first campaign to suggest race like this is within her keeping. Just needs luck early to find a spot. Book Of Exodus will be fitter after a sound debut at Horsham, he can be in this for longer with the right run in front. Count Of Anjou has taken benefit from his first raceday outing where he was run off his legs early. The extra trip today should see a somewhat steadier tempo, allowing his to find his feet and settle into the run. He’ll need galloping room approaching the home bend and if he’s within striking distance at the 400-metres, he’ll be closing hard. A good each way show.

Currently, Count Of Anjou is a $10 chance in the market.

Race 5 – George The Giant

Jockey – Liam Riordan

2000m – Barrier 8

Four-year-old gelding George The Giant gets out to 2000-metres for the first time today, looking to turn his form around after a disappointing pair of results in the past six weeks. The lumbering son of Sports Edition has failed to fire since winning his maiden in March but should enjoy a slower tempo out to this trip here. Jockey Liam Riordan will roll forward from the jump, letting his gelding bowl along freely in the long run to the first bend. Savoie will kick-up underneath him and try to hold the rails while Italian Poet and Mighty Oasis won’t be far away in the early parts. Savoie’s last two runs have been very good, carrying strong form from Horsham through Lucas The Younger who won during the Warrnambool carnival. He was beaten less than a length at this track/trip last start by West Cliff who came through the same Horsham race, that looks the best reference here. Italian Poet will start in the market but has an aversion to winning. No doubt has the talent to win a race of this ilk but hard to trust with his strike rate. Mighty Oasis has been jumping for most of this campaign. He’s next best in a race that quickly thins out. George The Giant likes to roll along at the top of proceedings and that looks his best chance again today. He should find the front without too many hassles, how he sees out the trip is the query. Form to date suggests he’ll keep plugging away, which should be enough to earn a cheque for connections this afternoon.

Currently, George The Giant is a $7.50 chance in the market.

Race 6 – Mortar

Jockey – Jack Hill

1600m – Barrier 1

Promising galloper Mortar returns to the races three months after an enforced layoff owing to an irregular heart rhythm at Benalla last start. The Tarzino gelding had been trending in the right direction two runs into his preparation before pulling up short on that occasion, the stable keen to see what he produces upon resumption today. Jack Hill has drawn the inside alley and will look to land leader’s back from the mile chute and enjoy the run of the race. Tiny Rebel will push forward from his outside gate with Drover’s Yarn in search of the lead while Halcyon East may choose to boot through from gate three. The former led and just missed at this track and trip last start, finishing alongside Dance Ready who came out and won comfortably next start. Tiny Rebel is fourth-up and hard fit, he’ll be in this for a long way. King And King comes through the same race where he was beaten a lip. He was three lengths astern of Dance Ready next start and is racing as well as he can. Tiny Rebel has more upside of the pair. Salute To The Sun and Raise The Colours will make their runs together from the back and will prove hard to hold out. The latter can run a cheeky race fresh while Salute To The Sun looks ready for the step up to a mile. She’s run on strongly in both runs this preparation and is one of the main dangers in a race of many chances. Mortar will be fit despite not racing since February and should get a soft run throughout. He has more ability than most of these and just needs even luck to feature prominently in this.

Currently, Mortar is a $4.50 chance in the market.
