Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday preview

Kyneton

Race 6 – Alors Du Crois

Jockey – Mitch Aitken

1450m – Barrier 6

Four-year-old mare Alors Du Crois returns to the races today after six months away from the track. The daughter of So You Think couldn’t put it all together in spring, resulting in three sub-par runs and an early exit to the paddock. The Dwyer galloper looks to have returned in good style, winning her latest jumpout at Cranbourne to have her ready for today’s first-up assignment. Jockey Mitch Aitken will roll forward from gate six and look for a position outside the leader, likely to be Lady Ardoyne who is drawn to Aitken’s immediate inside. That runner had a month between runs when runner-up at Avoca last start and has a similar gap into today’s race. She’s in with an each way chance from the front. Bella Nights has drawn the inside and will get a nice trail behind the speed. She was good at Mornington last start and presents fitter third-up here. She’ll tale holding out late and is a deserving favourite. Speed Bump had been trending towards a win before pulling up lame at her latest outing. If she’s right she’ll be running on hard late. Alors Du Crois will be hoping Lady Ardoyne can cross and find the rail and give her a nice cart over in the early stages. She’s had plenty of work and if she gets a nice run up on the speed will be there fighting out the finish in the final 100-metres. A solid each way chance.

Currently, Alors Du Crois is a $6 in the market.

Race 6 – Morpurgo

Jockey – Mitch Aitken

1850m – Barrier 7

Toronado gelding Morpurgo returns from a short spell this afternoon, winning two jumpouts in preparation for today’s 1850-metre contest. He looked good in his latest hitout, stretching out over 1550-metres and giving every indication he’s ready to be competitive first-up over a trip. Jockey Mitch Aitken will look for a midfield spot with cover, using barrier seven to find a comfortable position in the running line. Frankie Two Angels will boot-up from gate two and look for the lead, while Sacred Kiwi could be a nuisance factor from the inside gate and hold the rails. The former comes back in grade today and will be in this for a long way if he’s allowed to bowl along in front. Caboteur is another dropping in class today and a likely improver from his last start effort. He’s drawn wide and will work forward from the jump, luck playing a role in his early fortunes. Rebellious Lord isn’t hopeless but has been mixing his form and needs everything to go right to win. Morpurgo must be considered a winning hope on best form and his recent trials. He is fit enough to see the trip first-up and will have the last crack at them in the straight. With a solid tempo and clear galloping room he can run past these late.

Currently, Morpurgo is a $3.50 chance in the market.
