Avoca
Race 7 – Better Tomorrow
Jockey – Liam Riordan
1300m – Barrier 3
Five-year-old gelding Better Tomorrow is on the quick back-up from Swan Hill last week when he stays at 1300-metres today. The son of Lonhro has been mixing his form lately but his most recent run was encouraging and he meets similar opposition at Avoca this afternoon. Jockey Liam Riordan can be positive from a good draw and hold a spot one or two pairs back in the running line, ideally sitting behind likely leader Eitilt who will drive forward from a wide gate. That runner is well in the market but can be vulnerable late if he doesn’t get it all his way in front. Edgy Era is the other speed influence who will appreciate dropping back to this distance today. She will ensure a good clip up front and has drawn to hold an inside advantage. Via Capo shapes as hardest to beat after a solid first-up run behind Dawn County last start. He comes here fitter for that effort and will enjoy a nice trail behind the leaders. He’ll be hard to hold out late. If Better Tomorrow can find a position next to or just behind Via Capo he will have the opportunity to run on and be in the finish. It is a very short straight at Avoca so Riordan won’t want to be too far off them as heads turn for home. Each way chance.
Currently, Better Tomorrow is an $8.50 chance in the market.
