The stable darling headlines a trio of runners for the stable this afternoon.
Caulfield
Race 7 – Asfoora
Jockey – J McNeil
1000m – Barrier 5
Sprinting star Asfoora takes on Group-2 company today in the race traditionally known as the Caulfield Sprint. The four-year-old mare should undoubtedly be two from two this prep after copping horrendous luck at The Valley last start, where she ran into a roadblock when angling for a run in the straight. Dwyer is hoping there will be no repeat of those circumstances today, with Jye McNeil having the option to either sit outside the lead or tuck in with a bit of cover from a middle draw. Her win at Sandown first-up was dominant in lesser company, but the speedster stopped the clock in blistering time, despite being eased down in the final stages. She meets a quality field today and her main danger looks to be Sydneysider Dragonstone, who ended his three-year-old season with a Listed win at Randwick. The Mark Newnham-trained galloper will go back from an inside draw however, and the Dwyer speedster will hope to have a big enough gap on him – and the rest of the field – to find the line first.
From the trainer:
This has been her main target race for the preparation.
She’s in the best order we can have her.
I think she’ll be very hard to beat today.
Currently, Asfoora is a $5 chance in the market.
Ballarat (synthetic)
Race 2 – Equatori
Jockey – Will Price
1100m – Barrier 3
Recent Burrumbeet jumpout winner Equatori faces the starter for the first time today on the synthetic surface at Ballarat. The three-year-old filly has looked professional in two hitouts around the Burrumbeet circuit and looks ready for the pressures of raceday over the 1100-metre sprint trip. Jockey Will Price will begin from gate three and, given his mount has began cleanly in her trials, should have the option to sit on or near the speed throughout the maiden event. The neighbouring McEvoy and Maher/Eustace stables look to have the main chances in the race but the Dwyer runner is sure to be very competitive in a fairly skinny race.
From the trainer:
She’s in good order, albeit she will improve from the run.
Currently, Equatori is an $8.50 chance in the market.
Race 3 – Brung King
Jockey – Will Price
1500m – Barrier 6
Three-year-old gelding Brung King looks to go one better today after an encouraging performance at Geelong on debut. The son of Crackerjack King ran a close second in that event, sticking on strongly after being caught wide throughout on a soft track. The winner of that race takes on Listed company at Caulfield later today. Today’s contest, while very even, looks no harder with the main dangers Fame and High Approach coming through the same race at Geelong a fortnight ago.
From the trainer:
He’s done a fair bit of work on the poly track so that shouldn’t be an issue.
He’s definitely a chance.
If he doesn’t win he’ll be right there.
Currently, Brung King is a $4.20 chance in the market.
