Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has two runners today in UNDER OATH running in the Penshurst Cup and IRISH BUTTERFLY running at Ballarat on Ballarat Cup Day.

Penshurst – Good (4)

The track is rated a Soft 5 but with a dry day forecast expect that to improve to a Good 4 at some stage today. The rail goes back to the true position which means the inside 8m is fresh ground – those on speed might be slightly advantaged.

Race 9 (5.24pm) Bet365 Penshurst Cup

No.3 UNDER OATH – Mel Julius (Barrier 8)

UNDER OATH heads to Penshurst where he will run in the 2000m Penshurst Cup. He has drawn gate eight and MEl Julius will ride.

UNDER OATH steps up in distance today which is what he is looking for and he is coming off a nice run last start at Geelong. He steps down in class from that today, with the blinkers staying on and a tongue tie also being added. A key scratching here in AURORA’S SYMPHONY has seen COURT DEEP come in to a very solid favourite and clearly the horse to beat. Mel Julius will be positive from the barrier and look to sit one off the leader, which will be the key to his chances given he can miss the start.

More hopeful of a good performance off the back of a solid effort last start, with the favourite going to take some beating here.

Ballarat – Soft (5)

The track is rated a Soft 5 but with a dry day forecast expect that to improve to a Good 4 at some stage today. The rail goes back to the true position which means the inside 8m is fresh ground – those on speed might be slightly advantaged.

Race 9 (5pm) Suez McKellar Mile BM78 Handicap

No.13 IRISH BUTTERFLY – Will Price a(1.5) (Barrier 16)

IRISH BUTTERFLY heads to Ballarat on Cup Day where he will resume in a 1600m BM78. He has drawn gate sixteen and Will Price will ride with his 1.5kg claim.

IRISH BUTTERFLY is likely to spot them a big start from the wide draw but with a strong tempo and big field he should get his chance. He’s is a galloper of good talent that is much better suited first up at the mile as opposed to the 1100m he resumed at two campaigns ago and even the 1400m of last preparation. He moved quite well in a recent Ararat jump-out, suggesting he has come back in reasonable order, and we should see him strong at the end of the mile.

He is going well and while he doesn’t give too much away in his work, he is happy in himself and is going in fresh today. There is plenty of speed in this race which will help his chances as he will look to get a cart into the race. From where he will come from due to his wide barrier, he will run on and might be a good place chance here at odds.
