Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has three runners today in IRISH BUTTERFLY running at Flemington and UNDER OATH and ELEGIST running at Murray Bridge.

Flemington – Soft (6)

The rail is out 10m but that rarely makes a difference at headquarters, with all horses generally getting their chance.

Race 7 (3.55pm) VRC Member Justin Hoy Trophy

No.9 IRISH BUTTERFLY – Will Price a(1.5) (Barrier 15)

IRISH BUTTERFLY heads to Flemington today where he will contest a 2000m BM78. He has drawn gate fifteen and Will Price will ride with his 1.5kg claim.

IRISH BUTTERFLY has really enjoyed getting out in trip and staying at the 2000m only look a positive. He was strong through the line over 1800m two back and then fought on gamely at Mildura on their Cup Day albeit in what looked a more moderate race than what he contests here. He draws poorly out in gate fifteen but it won’t matter for him as he will be ridden cold from the barrier. He’s surpassed expectations since Mildura two weeks ago with how he looks, HOSIER is clearly the horse to beat here but he isn’t bulletproof and if he doesn’t turn up, then really anything could win this race.

The Mildura run last start looks better than it reads on paper and while he needs a few things to go right, mainly a horse to cart him into the race, he isn’t without a place chance here as he flys down the outside late.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $41 (as at 8am)

Murray Bridge – Soft (5)

Race 2 (12.52pm) Spry Civil Construction Handicap

No.1 UNDER OATH – Mitch Aitken (Barrier 8)

UNDER OATH heads to Murray Bridge today where he will contest a 2000m BM68. He has drawn gate eight and Mitch Aitken will ride.

UNDER OATH travelled over well on Thursday night and is staying on course with John Hickmott. He is only second up over 2000 metres, but he has had two trials in between to keep him fit enough for this. This is an average grade of race and it does look like a race that lacks speeds, so he will look to be ridden to sit outside the leader. He is about 90% fit which should be good enough to be competitive in this. He is way over the odds here and should be fighting out the finish with some luck in running and on the proviso he jumps well.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $16 (as at 8am)

Race 7 (4.07pm) In Memory of S Montgomerie and M Tyndall

No.2 ELEGIST – Mitch Aitken (Barrier 6)

ELEGIST also heads to Murray Bridge today where he will contest a 1000m BM60. He has drawn gate six and Mitch Aitken will ride.

ELEGIST has settled in well and is in good order ahead of today. He was good last time at Sandown which is a stronger race than he faces today. The favourite has come out this morning which will help his chances in what doesn’t appear to be an overly strong race. He gets the blinkers on first time which he has trialled in and he does carry 60.5 kilograms which is a fair impost, but much of his competition also has to carry weight. Murray Bridge will suit and hopefully he can sit outside another runner so he can unleash his sprint down the long straight.

He is a winning chance today given his recent form, but with one win from 13 he often does find one better on the day. Hoping today he won’t and win number two will arrive for connections.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $4.80 (as at 8am)
