Flemington
Race 7 – Over The Stars
Jockey – Celine Gaudray
1100m – Barrier 4
Three-year-old filly Over The Stars has her first look at the Flemington straight when out to 1100-metres this afternoon. The daughter of Overshare was a strong maiden winner two starts back before overdoing things in front at The Valley and fading from the bend. Blinkers and a tongue tie go on today, jockey Celine Gaudray able to let her filly stride in the early parts, looking to keep something in hand for the final furlong.
Speed looks good in the early parts, with Princess Que and Manolo Bling to go fast from the outset, while expect Climate Change to look for the lead from gate one. Princess Que has been good in all three career starts, brave in defeat at The Valley last time out. She beat Sweethearted by over two lengths the start prior, who has won twice since, beating some key runners here. She’ll take catching. Kirribilli won first-up last preparation before being Stakes-placed at her only other run. No surprise to see her running on from the back today. Each way chances to Mckeyla and Porsha Crystal, who were both impressive maiden winners last time out, and Manolo Bling, who won here two starts back.
Over The Stars will appreciate the expanses of the Flemington straight, able to bowl along somewhere near the speed throughout. She needs to bounce back from her last start effort, but with some key gear changes, gets every chance to do so today.
Currently, Over The Stars is a $67 chance in the market.
Flemington
Race 10 – Nishino Crescent
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1800m – Barrier 7
Six-year-old galloper Nishino Crescent returns to Flemington today, a fortnight after finishing fourth in a solid effort at the track and trip. The gelded son of Satono Aladdin made good ground from the back on that occasion, having won well at Geelong the start prior. Jockey Mitch Aitken stays on board and leaves from a middle gate, able to settle midfield with cover before running on in the home straight.
Speed is okay, with Blushing Tycoon and Cable Dancer able to roll across from the outside, while expect Brooklyn Boss to hold its position from the inside alley. Blushing Tycoon was sent forward from a wide gate at this track and trip last start, only run down in the final strides in a bold performance. A similar effort here has him right in the mix. Et Tu Brute did the bulk of the chasing behind Blushing Tycoon, carting the rest of the field into the race and only missing by half-a-length on the line. He was a strong winner the start prior, no surprise to see him go close again. Dream All Day was a shade unlucky at Ballarat two starts back before making amends here last time out. Draws for a lovely run and sure to be in the finish. Brooklyn Boss next best.
Nishino Crescent strikes a competitive affair today, similar to that which he ran fourth last start. All runs at Flemington have been good and he’ll again get his chance to close from the back. Each way claims.
Currently, Nishino Crescent is a $20 chance in the market.
Camperdown
Race 2 – Superior Speed
Jockey – Jack Hill
1600m – Barrier 8
Three-year-old galloper Superior Speed gets out to a mile second-up at Camperdown this afternoon. The gelded son of Super Seth was always rearward on debut at Burrumbeet, just holding his ground late in a run that suggested he was looking for more ground. He gets that here, jockey Jack Hill able to find cover midfield in the early parts before giving his mount every chance to run on in the home straight.
Triple Oh looks the leader from gate three, having led and found one better at Warrnambool on debut three weeks ago. She did a bit wrong on that occasion and comes here better for the experience. She’ll give them all something to chase and prove hardest to beat. Tikken can roll forward and sit outside or just behind Triple Oh from the outset, looking to go one better than his runner-up effort last start. He’s been placed his past three and a win looks close. Strong claims. Each way chances to Potsie’s Daughter, who finished a length behind Tikken at Yarra Valley, and Mummsie, who made good late ground at Hamilton over 1400-metres.
Superior Speed will get every chance to run on in the home straight today, whether he can be close enough on the bend to make an impact is the query. He’ll improve from his debut effort and the extra distance is in his favour today. Look for a better showing.
Currently, Superior Speed is a $91 chance in the market.
Cranbourne
Race 1 – Composite Action
Jockey – Jackie Beriman
1600m – Barrier 8
Three-year-old filly Composite Action gets blinkers for the first time when she comes back to a mile at Cranbourne this evening. The daughter of Foxwedge was sound at Colac two runs back before not finishing off at Horsham when out to 2100-metres four weeks ago. Back to a mile suits, jockey Jackie Beriman able to find cover one or two pairs back before peeling out to run on in the home straight.
Speed looks ok with Rose Diamond and Magic Princess to roll forward from the outset, while expect Psychotic to boot through from the inside and hold a forward position in the run. Rose Diamond has been good at all three career starts, runner-up at this track and trip last time out. There was a gap to third on that occasion and no surprise to see her go one better in this. Hardest to beat. Bitta Bon Magic was a solid effort on debut over 1300-metres and raced like he was looking for a mile. He gets that here and any improvement sees him in the mix. Each way chances to Matron Samsing, who was a beaten favourite when finding one better at Mornington last start, and Magic Princess, who has been runner-up at her past two.
Composite Action needs to bounce back from her last start effort, having shown improvement at Colac the run prior. This is tougher, but on best efforts can sneak into the top four.
Currently, Composite Action is a $61 chance in the market.
