Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday Preview

Flemington

Race 4 – Electric Impulse

Jockey – Beau Mertens

1420m – Barrier 8

Classy mare Electric Impulse returns to Flemington today following a solid effort at this track and distance a fortnight ago. The four-year-old daughter of Cable Bay was best of the closers behind an all-the-way winner on that occasion, running through the line strongly from a hopeless position to finish alongside the placegetters. Jockey Beau Mertens leaves from a middle gate today and can get out and rolling at the right time from a midfield position.

Speed has drawn outside with Subliminal and Starlight Scope to roll across in the early parts, while Beour Bay and Brazen Lady won’t be far away when runners turn for home. Gee whiz, this is open. Jenny Jerome was runner-up last start in the aforementioned Flemington race and draws for a soft run in this. Doesn’t win out of turn but rarely runs poorly. A repeat of last start sees her go close again. Brazen Lady comes through the same race where she finished third and could lob leaders’ back from the start today. Sure to be thereabouts again. Subliminal has strung a hattrick of wins together, impossible to knock her form. Couldn’t possibly back Belle Et Riche to win but she’s never far away, while Starlight Scope will get every chance from out in front. Belle Savoir back from Stakes grade but 1400-metres?

Electric Impulse got going when the race was shot last start but shouldn’t have that problem today. She should find some fresh ground out wide with the rail out and get her chance to run on in the home straight. Any give left in the surface a bonus, strong each way claims.

Currently, Electric Impulse is a $5 chance in the market.

Race 7 – Brung King

Jockey – John Allen

1420m – Barrier 10

Talented galloper Brung King heads to Flemington today, a fortnight after a solid effort when runner-up back in trip at Swan Hill. The gelded son of Crackerjack King beat all bar a smart sprinter on that occasion and will appreciate the extra furlong on offer today, with any sting out of the ground a bonus by this point of the program. Jockey John Allen rides from towards the outside and look to lob midfield with cover throughout.

Speed is drawn towards the inside with Holbein, Georgie Get Mad and Tobaysure all likely to be positive in the early parts, while General Firepower is sure to roll across and have a look for the lead before turning for home. This galloper had everything in his favour last start but did win with authority. Up in grade but presents as an each way chance. Georgie Get Mad is a last start winner at this track and trip, working early but finding plenty late in the piece to wear down the leader in a tough battle. He’s up in the weights today but a low draw should see him with a kinder run in transit. Could take catching. Tobaysure resumes and is yet to miss a placing from five fresh attempts (5:2-1-2). Latest jumpout was okay. Concede each way chances to Le Ferrari and Watadeel in a competitive affair.

Brung King would be better suited on a rain-affected surface but showed last start he can perform on top of the ground. If he finds cover in the early parts he can get involved in the home straight. Good enough to beat these, but each way on a drying track.

Currently, Brung King is a $16 chance in the market.
