Flemington
Race 2 – Prairie Flower
Jockey – Declan Bates
1100m – Barrier 1
Evergreen galloper Prairie Flower returns to Flemington this afternoon, dropping in grade for the 1100-metre contest. The daughter of Star Turn was rock solid at this track and trip a month ago, racing in the wrong part of the track when beaten under two lengths on that occasion. Jockey Declan Bates draws the inside this afternoon and will want his mare to step cleanly today, not leaving herself as much to do at the back end of proceedings.
Speed is drawn immediately next door with Squad and Ouroboros to hold forward positions in the run, while Chester Warrior won’t be far away further out on the course. Even affair. Cute As was very good here two starts back, beating Prairie Flower home when third behind Sans Doute. She had a crack at Stakes grade last time out without featuring, but does look suited back to this company today. Each way claims. Ouroboros returns from a spell, having been in consistent form last preparation. He boasts form around Archo Nacho and Cylinder, and has jumped out well enough to suggest a forward showing is on the cards. Hardest to beat. Each way chances to Wiggum and Plus Fours in a very competitive race.
Prairie Flower will look to edge away from the inside to make her run, just needing a touch of luck to so so when the sprint goes on. If she finds the right run, she has the turn of foot to be right in the mix in the closing stages. Strong each way claims.
Currently, Prairie Flower is an $11 chance in the market.
