Race 9 – Lupine
Jockey – Neil Farley
2000m – Barrier 12
Four-year-old galloper Lupine gets blinkers for the first time when he gets out to 2000-metres this afternoon. The gelded son of Tivaci has had two starts this preparation, both at a mile, and will enjoy the extra distance on offer today. Jockey Neil Farley leaves from towards the outside and can be positive in the early stages, looking to land on or just behind the speed heading into the back.
Not a great deal of speed in this, with Wise Legend as likely as any to roll forward and contest for the lead early, while expect Celtic Knot to hold its position from a low draw. Wise Legend is racing in consistent fashion, finishing top three in seven of his past eight starts, including a last start win at Murtoa. He should be afforded every chance in the run and looks the one to beat. Eyes To Me won his maiden at this track and trip last start and is fitter again third-up today. Big ask to win straight out of maiden grade but does look to have upside. Each way claims. So too Jimbrook, who is suited to this distance, and Shultzy, who cops a whack at the weights but is right back in grade.
Lupine will appreciate stretching out in trip today and should find a forward position in the run. He’s third-up and fitter, no surprise to see him in this for a long way. Each way claims.
Currently, Lupine is a $17 chance in the market.
