Warrnambool
Race 5 – Moscow Red
Jockey – Alysha Warren
1700m – Barrier 5
Eleven-year-old mare Moscow Red is on a seven day back-up when she gets back out to 1700-metres at Warrnambool this afternoon. The daughter of Road To Rock has wound back the clock with some excellent runs this preparation, making ground down the middle of the track when few could at Hamilton last start. Apprentice hoop Alysha Warren rides from a soft gate and can find cover midfield or better with a clean getaway.
Raven’s Silver looks the likely leader from barrier four, while expect Unfair Dismissal and Riverina Cyclone to roll forward from further out on the course. Cherokee Brave was strong late when fresh at Geelong three weeks ago, and 1700-metres second-up looks ideal. Awkward draw probably sees him drift back early, but no surprise to see him winding up late again. One of the main chances. Musgrave has had a stable change since a sound effort in Adelaide over 2250-metres. Back in trip for this and can enjoy a soft run from the inside alley. Each way claims. So too Raven’s Silver who will get every chance from the front. Untried at this trip but will likely be in front straightening for home. Royalzel next best.
Moscow Red would be better suited on heavy ground, but her run on a soft surface at Seymour two back was good enough to go close in this. She can settle closer in the run from a good draw today and leave herself less to do at the back end of the race. Must be considered among the each way chances.
Currently, Moscow Red is a $12 chance in the market.
