Ballarat (poly)
Race 7 – Savvy Bee
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1200m – Barrier 4
Resuming filly Savvy Bee kicks off her second preparation on the synthetic track at Ballarat this afternoon. The three-year-old daughter of Savabeel performed well at all five starts in the spring/summer, placing three times before heading to the paddock a winner on the back of a strong victory on her home grass circuit. Jockey Mitch Aitken leaves from barrier four and won’t bustle the filly, rather landing midfield or worse with cover and looking to run on late.
Good early speed in this with Defactor to drawn to lead from the inside, while Our Free Spirit, Cosmic Rhapsody and Sistine Explorer will all press for a forward position in the run. Strike Eagle is one runner who will likely settle in the second half of the field and be hitting the line late. He’s been racing in stronger grade and gets in well after the 3kg apprentice claim. If the leaders get fired up and go too hard, he’ll be hard to hold out in the final 100-metres. Cosmic Rhapsody looks most likely of the leading division to keep kicking and prove hard to run down. He loves the poly track (4:1-3-0) and was only headed late by a smart one last start. Concede an each way chance to Jay Peak Kitten who is racing well, but synthetic form a concern.
Savvy Bee is up to a race like this but how ready she is first-up is the query. The Dwyer galloper improved sharply second-up last preparation and will be better for the run today. She will enjoy a soft run throughout, working home late in the piece and can collect a cheque for connections. May sneak into the placings against some race-fit horses.
Currently, Savvy Bee is a $4.50 chance in the market.
