The HDR stable has one runners today in VAYAMOS at WERRIBEE.
WERRIBEE – Soft (7)
As at lunchtime on Sunday the track was rated a Heavy 8 after 24mm of rain the past week. The forecast is for fine weather on Monday but with cold nights it will only improve a rating or two, so Soft 6 may be the best we get to. Werribee is track with a relatively short, 275m home straight and it’s rarely a disadvantage to be too far off speed. (Form Analyst Matt Welsh)
Race 4 (2:30 pm) Evergreen Turf Maiden Plate 2000M
No.9 VAYAMOS – Mitch Aitken (Barrier 4)
VAYAMOS (4) heads to Werribee on Monday to tackle a 2000m Maiden (Race 4, 2.30pm). He has drawn gate five and Mitch Aitken will ride.
VAYAMOS has been mixing his distances and now gets out to the 2000m after dropping back in trip last time out. He was quite good up on a very hot tempo – 5.9L above standard to the 800m mark – two back at Kilmore and that signalled he was heading in the right direction. He took a sit in behind a moderate tempo, again at Kilmore, last time out but was struggling from the moment they dashed down the hill before turning for home. He was beaten a long way out there and needs to improve off the back of it to be winning this, but at least he maps nicely and with three runs under his belt now the 2000m is worth a try. (Form Analyst Matt Welsh)
VAYAMOS, The imported son of Vadamos steps again here in what some would see as a wild throw at the stumps, stepping out dramatically in trip to 2000m of the back of previous runs over 1400m and 1600m. The rise in distance rings clear apprehension but with any luck and the right tempo, Vayamos could surprise us all. There is significant speed considering its a Monday maiden and that may pose a problem for the son of Vadamos who will settle in the front half and look to be finishing. (Stable)
