Geelong
Race 7 – Dancethenightaway
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1443m – Barrier 5
Resuming filly Dancethenightaway meets benchmark-58 company in her first trip to the races since finishing fourth at Sandown in December last year. That was just her second career start following an easy all-the-way win at Kyneton on debut and she’ll appreciate the drop in class for today’s first-up run. Jockey Mitch Aitken leaves from a good draw and will come out neutral, looking for a position midfield with cover. Early speed will come from The Untacklabull while Fashion Fighter may choose to kick-up from an inside alley. Paris Affair looks hardest to beat here despite jumping from the extreme outside. He drops back in distance after breaking his maiden last start but finished runner-up the start prior, just over two lengths behind the talented Globe. That form looks irresistible for a race like this. Sir Atlas was an impressive debut winner in January before being put away for a spell. He resumes here today and looks the best of the challengers. The race opens right up from there and Dancethenightaway finds herself in with the each way chances. If she can settle in the run and find clear air rounding the home bend she can finish off nicely and collect a cheque for connections. Tough race to win and she will improve next time out but must be considered an each way hope.
Currently, Dancethenightaway is a $6 chance in the market.
Cranbourne
Race 6 – Brungle Raider
Jockey – Luke Nolen
2520m – Barrier 8
In-form stayer Brungle Raider returns to the scene of his dominant last start performance, stepping up to benchmark-70 company at Cranbourne tonight. The gelded son of Rebel Raider is shooting at a hattrick of wins after trotting in at Stawell the start prior and will enjoy the soft conditions on offer this evening. Luke Nolen sticks on and can find the lead without too much hassle from his wide draw. Tonight’s race will prove stronger than his previous opposition with some rivals coming back to this level after running in higher grade. Tobaysure was placed in Open company two starts back before running well at Mornington last start. This is his first go beyond 2040-metres but is a promising stayer and must be considered one of the chances. Country’s Light was only half-a-length off Tobaysure two starts ago, then ran third to the impressive Jaykayann at 2400-metres last time out. Has proven he’ll stay the trip and is a top hope in this race. Milford Sound was no match for Irish Butterfly a fortnight ago but if he runs up to his previous start he’s in with a, each way show. Brungle Raider is racing in terrific fashion and will be given every opportunity to win from the front again tonight. He needs only to run up to his recent form to be winning this event, remembering he hasn’t been tested in the final stages of his recent wins. He’s the one they have to beat,
Currently, Brungle Raider is a $2.60 chance in the market.
