Henry Dwyer Racing – Friday Preview

Moonee Valley

Race 5- Almonti

Jockey – Declan Bates

2040m – Barrier 3

Consistent galloper Almonti steps back up in distance when he heads to The Valley for Friday night racing. The gelded son of Dundeel settled rearward over 1856-metres at Kyneton last start, cornering widest and making good ground in the home straight to run into third position. Extra trip tonight suits, jockey Declan Bates able to settle closer in the run from a good draw, looking to land one or two pairs back with cover throughout.

There’s good early speed in this, with Tommy and Mishare to punch forward from low draws, while expect Royal Hard Hat, Chimed, Chevalier Du Fau and Placentia Bay to roll across and be prominent heading into the first bend. Even affair, can make a case for most. Placentia Bay has been runner-up at two of his past three and looks like he’ll appreciate getting beyond 2000-metres here. He may end up with a soft trail behind the leaders and have plenty to give when the sprint goes on. One of the main hopes. Royal Hard Hat led and boxed on gamely at this track and trip last start, beaten under a length when runner-up. If he gets across from a wide gate, he’ll give them something to chase. Each way chances to Stardom Awaayts, who will do no work back in the field, and Chimed, who is shooting at a hattrick of wins. Others wouldn;t surprise.

Almonti will want to step cleanly and settle in the front half of the field, looking to enjoy a soft trail behind the speed. His closing effort last start was good, a similar performance tonight has him right in the thick of things. Strong each way claims.

Currently, Almonti is a $7 chance in the market.
