Race 6 – Savvy Bee
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1400m – Barrier 3
Three-year-old filly Savvy Bee is second-up and fitter at Geelong this afternoon. The daughter of Savabeel settled at the rear of the field when fresh over 1200-metres and found her opposition too slick on the synthetic, running through the line soundly without impacting the contest. Jockey Mitch Aitken can settle closer off a steadier tempo today and has drawn to get a cosy run one or two pairs back with cover.
Soho Queen jumps quickly from an inside barrier and will look to hold the lead, while Redoute’s Soul and Lulu Darling will come across from wider out. Soho Queen is first-up since January, having jumped out well in preparation. She won her maiden when fresh last preparation then ran well at a mile before finding the paddock. She’s ideally drawn to find the front and will be the one they have to catch. Grey Whisper has been good at two runs back from a long lay-off and will be further improved today. Back on top of the ground looks a plus and there’s good form around her. Goes in the each way mix. Gemstar is right back in grade here and maps to get a lovely run midfield, while Redoute’s Soul has jumped out well and could put in a cheeky run off a long spell.
Savvy Bee was stiff not to win at her only previous second-up attempt, getting too far back at Colac before storming home to just miss. Out to 1400-metres today will suit and back on top of the ground is a bonus at this time of year. Aitken can give her a soft time throughout and make his run from the top of the home straight once in clear air. She’s a genuine each way hope in this.
Currently, Savvy Bee is a $17 chance in the market.

Race 7 – Moscow Red
Jockey – Jaylah Kennedy
1700m – Barrier 11
Veteran galloper Moscow Red drops significantly in class for a benchmark-64 contest at Geelong this afternoon. The nine-year-old mare has been mixing her form in Adelaide, racing exclusively in Saturday grade, and looks better suited against this opposition at this stage of her preparation. Apprentice hoop Jaylah Kennedy claims 3kg and will drift back from an outside draw in the early stages.
Eddy Street led and won his maiden on the synthetic last start and has drawn to be prominent in the run again today. Similar story with Vivideel who will come across from out wider, while Watergate can punch through from barrier one and sit handy. Superstock failed in a much stronger race at Flemington last start but the effort at Caulfield prior puts him right in this. Query at the distance but can’t be discounted as a winning hope. Expecting True Grit to improve sharply second-up and on better footing here. He was well beaten when fresh but gets to a more suitable distance and has performed well with a run under his belt previously. Blackcomb was trending towards a win before struggling in heavy going last start. Finds it hard to win but on drier ground gets her chance today. Competitive race.
Moscow Red’s best efforts are clearly good enough to win a race like this. She would prefer wet ground at this stage of her career but is by no means hopeless on a drying surface. She needs to improve on her recent outings however, and faces a task from back in the field. Expecting a better run today.
Currently, Moscow Red is a $27 chance in the market.
