One runner heads to town to break his maiden under the Friday night lights at The Valley.
The Valley
Race 1 – Rock Dee Jay
Jockey – Dean Yendall
1200m – Barrier 5
Four-year-old maiden Rock Dee Jay is third-up into tonight’s 1200-metre contest after a sound showing in Adelaide last start. The bay gelding finished fourth there, seemingly having every chance to finish closer than his beaten margin of nearly three lengths. However third from that race – finishing just half-a-length in front of the Dwyer runner – has since won an Adelaide metro maiden impressively, suggesting this son of Awesome Rock isn’t far away from breaking through for a win. He finds himself in a race decimated by scratchings, with some early fancies pulling out owing to the heavy track and while the wet conditions aren’t ideal for him, Rock Dee Jay comes right into contention in this seven-horse field. Maher/Eustace look to have a debutant with ability but the race evens out from there. In-form hoop Dean Yendall will ride from a middle draw and will look to find cover in the two-wide line towards the back half of the field before finding what might be better ground out wide in the straight.
From the trainer:
He’s at a stage now where he just needs a run, even on an unfavourable surface. He’s just too well.
We’ll let the speed go, give him every chance to balance up and finish off.
Currently, Rock Dee Jay is a $4.20 chance in the market.
