Henry Dwyer Racing – Friday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has two runners today in ARAPILES and IRISH BUTTERFLY running at Mildura.

Mildura – Soft (7)

The track is rated a Soft 7 and it is rarely a disadvantage to be too far from the speed at Mildura, however the track raced very well at the most recent meeting on May 30. The track has been given time between meetings and should be in splendid order.

Race 3 (1.30pm) Mildura Motor Holdings 3YO Maiden Plate

No.2 ARAPILES – John Allen (Barrier 6)

ARAPILES heads to Mildura today where he will contest a 1300m Maiden. He has drawn gate six and John Allen will ride.

ARAPILES has the blinkers going on for the first time which can hopefully bring about a little more improvement. He was trapped deep but was entitled to do a touch more late at Ballarat last time out, but his run prior was sound in a reasonable from race at the same track. There doesn’t look a huge amount of speed on paper and provided he jumps cleanly he can roll forward from the wide draw and settle in a handy spot. The step in trip to 1300m looks a positive now at peak fitness.

Blinkers go on here and he can handle a soft track, Allen will be positive from the barrier and potentially even lead and while this race has come up a little stronger than originally thought, he will be thereabouts in the finish in what is an open race.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $7 (as at 8am)

Race 6 (3pm) AJ & JJ Dunne Murray Mallee Stayers Heat 1

No.1 IRISH BUTTERFLY – John Allen (Barrier 4)

IRISH BUTTERFLY also heads to Mildura on Cup Day where he will contest a 2000m BM70. He has drawn gate four and John Allen will ride.

IRISH BUTTERFLY returned to the winner’s circle with a gritty, on-speed performance at Murray Bridge last time out. The way he toughed it out on the line the step to 2000m poses no issues. He has been racing well since the blinkers went on and there’s no reason to think he won’t again race up handy to the speed. This gelding is adept in all track conditions and there’s no reason to think he won’t again relish the conditions.

He will run a good race today at his first time out to the 2000 metres and with some key scratchings he gets to jump from a good barrier. John Allen is a gun jockey but we have to carry the weight, he won’t look to lead ideally and be just off the leaders to finish off over the top of them. He’s a good each way chance and will be fighting out the finish with a couple of the other progressive runners in the race.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $4.60 (as at 8am)
