The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has three runners today in GAIUS, TWELVE STARS and COPPER FOX running at Geelong.
Geelong – Soft 7
The track is rated a Soft 7 and there is some rain forecast, which could see it downgrade as the meeting goes on. Geelong is a track that generally plays very well, but with the rail out 7 metres it wouldn’t surprise if they got off the fence as the meeting goes on.
Race 2 (1pm) Geelong Homes 3YO Maiden Plate
No.6 GAIUS – Michael Poy (Barrier 8)
GAIUS heads to Geelong today where he will contest a 1330m Maiden. He has drawn gate eight and Michael Poy will ride.
GAIUS was very good first up at Swan Hill. He resumed over 1200m and was up on what was a fairly gentle tempo and he beat off his co-leaders before being swamped by what looked to be a smart debutant. He kept kicking through the line and that last 50 metres and his work past the post gives every indication the step to 1300m will be ideal. He will be ridden quietly today from the barrier unlike last start when he was well forward, and from there will be looking to run on late.
He has maintained his fitness since his last run at Swan Hill and looks ready to run another good race here today.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $3.50 (as at 8am)

Race 4 (2pm) Taxi Network Geelong Maiden Plate
No.9 TWELVE STARS – Lucinda Boyd (Barrier 10)
TWELVE STARS also heads to Geelong today where she will contest a 1230m Maiden. She has drawn gate ten and Lucinda Boyd will ride.
TWELVE STARS ran into a couple of handy ones at Ballarat last start and she ran really well from the tail, getting home in the 13th best last 400m split of the meeting. That turned out to be a tough day to make ground, which adds merit to her effort. The second horse out of that Ballarat run – Tessneem – has since won impressively and the big gap back to fourth was a good sign. From the wide draw she will get back again here, but she has plenty of ability this filly and with even luck she can figure in the finish.
There are a few handy ones in this race today but she does appear over the odds given the form out of her last race. Hopefully the track pattern is allowing for horses to run on.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $19 (as at 8am)

Race 7 (3.30pm) Viatek BM64 Handicap
No.1 COPPER FOX – Michael Poy (Barrier 8)
COPPER FOX is our third runner at Geelong and he will contest a 1330m BM64. He has drawn gate eight and Michael Poy takes the ride.
COPPER FOX has been freshened up since his last run in May and the distance today is perfect for him. Soft 7 will suit but he doesn’t want it any worse than that. He doesn’t face the stiffest competition today and while sometimes he does find it hard to stick his nose out at the right time, he should acquit himself well in this grade. He will look to be midfield from the barrier and will be charging home late and should be in the thereabouts in the finish, if he puts his best foot forward today.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $6 (as at 8am)
