Henry Dwyer Racing – Friday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has two runners today with TELEKINESIS running at Ballarat today and ELEGIST running at Cranbourne tonight.

Ballarat – All Weather Track

There has been two meetings on the Ballarat Synthetic this season and to date it has been most advantageous to be up on speed, especially in the early part of the card.

Race 5 (3pm) Porter Plant BM58 Handicap

No.2 TELEKINESIS – Tayla Childs a(3) (Barrier 7)

TELEKINESIS will race at home on the Ballarat Synthetic today where he will resume in a 1000m BM58. He has drawn gate seven and Tayla Childs will ride.

TELEKINESIS produced the best last 600/400m splits of the meeting to post a strong win the one time he raced on the Ballarat Synthetic in what was a really high-rating victory. That win was two runs back and he could only manage one run last campaign when midfield at Bendigo. TELEKINESIS has had one jump-out ahead of this resumption today and while he was slow to begin up at Avoca, he worked to the line strongly under light riding. He’s as talented as anything in the race and with even luck in running he’s a good winning chance, but the key to his hopes could be how cleanly he jumps the gates.

It will be a speed battle early and we will most likely be three wide with cover midfield, which will suit him in the run. He will improve of his run today and isn’t totally screwed down, but in saying that he might not matter on the all weather track and he does seem to enjoy the surface. He’s should be filling the placings somewhere, hopefully he can finish over the top of them.

Cranbourne – Soft (7)

The track is rated a Soft 7 and this is the last night meeting of a long season so the track is pretty worn and the rail goes out to the 9m position, having been 7m last Friday. The track itself generally provides a slight edge to those on speed, with the soft conditions and wear in the track it would pay to keep an eye on the first few races for any evident pattern.

Race 7 (8pm) P&L Darose TJ Harrison Plate

No.3 ELEGIST – Ben Melham (Barrier 1)

ELEGIST heads to Cranbourne tonight where he will contest a 1000m Bm64. He has drawn gate one and Ben Melham will ride.

ELEGIST has a sticky gate in one because he’s not a flash beginner and he’s likely to be buried away on the fence and needing luck. That said, when you get these manically run races they can string out a bit and often a run can open up on the inside, especially on a track like Cranbourne where they can get shanghaied wide around the sharper home bend.

ELEGIST hasn’t had the best of luck of late: he was unlucky not to finish closer at Albury three back, got home strongly in a hot form race dominated on speed two back and was flashing late behind Zorro’s Dream (who has since run well at Flemington) last time out. He’s racing well enough to win a race like this and this is the weakest race he has tackled for some time, but he’s just going to need some luck at a crucial stage from that barrier. We have the right jockey onboard and if he can get the split he should be winning.
