In-form gelding Irish Butterfly made it two wins from his last three starts when he made light work of his rivals in benchmark-64 grade at Sandown on Wednesday. The seven-year-old son of O’Reilly looked well-suited in the event and ran accordingly, holding a two-length margin on the line as jockey Celine Gaudray sat up for the photo. The young hoop gave Dwyer’s galloper every hope in the run, finding a spot outside race leader Dionisio after a busy beginning, before pouring the pressure on past the 1000-metre mark. Dionisio put up the white flag on the bend and Gaudray swept to the lead, beating off all comers by the furlong marker and cruising to an impressive win. Trainer Dwyer was thrilled with both horse and jockey post-race. “Gee she (Gaudray) did a good job”, Dwyer said. “Just a textbook ride”.
Of his runner: “He really did a good job. He pulled up after the race like he hadn’t been around. He’s done it very easily”.
The trainer identified a race in benchmark-78 grade at the same track and trip as his next suitable assignment in five weeks. But for now, a well-earned trip to the beach at St Leonards as he continues his successful preparation.
