Dance finds her groove

Three-year-old galloper Dancethenightaway returned to form on Tuesday, taking out a benchmark-58 race on the synthetic track at Ballarat. The daughter of Highland Reel appreciated the drop in class from her last start at Mornington, where she was mixing with benchmark-70 company on a soft track. Jockey John Allen gave her a sweet ride behind the leading pair, getting off their backs at the top of the straight and taking over at the furlong marker, comfortably holding off the late challengers. Henry Dwyer’s filly looked comfortable back on top of the ground third-up, travelling strongly throughout and holding nearly a length margin on the line. Allen was pleased with the filly’s run post-race. “She picked up well and was good and solid the whole way to the line. A good, honest effort”.

Trainer Henry Dwyer:

“Good to get her back in the winner’s circle.

“Johnny gave her a lovely ride. The intention was to lead but it worked out ok, they went a bit hard from out wide and he let them cross.

She won pretty easily in the end”.

Dwyer noted that she would be at her peak next time out, likely to be at the same track and trip as today’s successful outing. Should she run well again, there are options at Sandown for her over a mile, though Dwyer is conscious his filly needs a good surface to perform at her best.

Dancethenightaway now has two wins from five career starts.
