Boy, She Deserved That One

Honest mare Friday At Five ($4.80) broke through for an overdue win on her home track last Thursday. The six-year-old daughter of Zoustar had been close up in three previous starts, arguably unlucky not to salute at Benalla four weeks earlier in what has turned out to be a solid form reference. Jockey Mitch Aitken took luck out of the equation this time, settling outside race leader Dalton Dancer ($6.50) from the mile start, the pair turning for home together and pinching a break on the rest of the field. Aitken was hard at work in the home straight, his mare responding and taking over soon after, pulling away in the last 100-metres to score by a length-and-a-half on the line. Aitken praised the efforts of his galloper post-race.

“She travelled beautifully for me throughout the run.

“She put them away easily. She was ready to go and on fire today”.

Henry admitted she deserved that win.

“She’s been racing well without a lot of luck, and pleasingly today was a good prizemoney race on her home track.

“She looks terrific, she’s pulled up well. I’d like to run her in the Dunkeld Cup”.

That race is over 1800-metres, which on the strength of her latest win, looks well within her grasp on November 16. One gets the sense a busload of connections could be headed to what is often labelled Victoria’s most picturesque racetrack…

Friday At Five now has six wins from thirty-two career starts, closing in on $200,000 total prizemoney.
