Asfoora shines on debut at Colac

It was a debut appearance in the winner’s circle for Asfoora after Liam Riordan and the three-year-old daughter of Flying Artie combined to take out the Bet365 Odds Drift Protector 3YO Maiden Plate at Colac. Saluting for the weekend Racing Hearts charity bet.

Coming off a strong jump out at Ballarat on the 22nd of November, and a promising gallop outside of stablemate First Division at Camperdown, who went onto win at Bendigo over 1000m.

All form leaned towards a strong showing on debut. Jumping from a wide gate which can be tricky over the trip at Colac, But as she straightened for home she looked the winner as she quickened up and put them away comfortably over the line.

“She had the run of the race today,” said Riordan.

“She dwelled a bit at the start but from a sticky alley, we were able to settle in a nice spot and she had the run of the race, peeled out and quickened up nicely but then just waited for them a bit so against better opposition she will be a nice filly,” said Riordan

She won with a bit of hand, she half switched off she was that far in front.

“The race panned out for her how we envisioned, she was able to cart across and got a beautiful steer from Liam.

“The second and third horses were not to be disgraced as they have gone about two or three lengths quicker than the other 0-58 race over the same trip later in the day, Which is a good time by Asfoora with a bit still up her sleeve.

“Her behaviour was perfect as she is known to get a little fizzed up during her work, but learning to settle around race day will come with experience.

Asfoora might likely go on with it now with a step up into a midweek or Friday night 1000 or 1100m which will be right in her wheelhouse likely in a couple of weeks, with the aim to her again hopefully revisiting the winner’s circle this time in city class.
